The New Mexico Watercolor Society (NMWS) was developed after research and planning by Peter Walker. Feeling a real need for this kind of organization, he publicized the initial meeting in the Albuquerque Journal, inviting watercolorists and people interested in watercolor to attend the meeting. His insight and hard work were rewarded with a large turnout. NMWS is based in Albuquerque, with a satellite chapter in Las Cruces. Meetings are held monthly (except July) and include interesting and stimulating painting-related speakers. A social time, where artists can chat and become acquainted with other members, precedes the meeting . Las Cruces Meetings are held monthly (other than June, July & August) with presentations by artists and art-related educators. There is a social time prior to each meeting.
